I came up with the idea this Spring after I found myself without a home. I figured why not hit the road and do some good with it.
So in the very near future I am going to be traveling the U.S.A. stopping in various cities and towns offering my strong back and weak mind for the day.

What are you doing?
I hope to work one day at a non-profit organization in all 50 states in the grand ole USA.
Why are you doing this?
I hope to promote volunteering. I would like to shine a little light on the people who are doing some good in their communities. Also I would like to learn as much as I can about running a non-profit because that will likely be my future.
Who are you?
The name is James R. Brandewie. My pen name is J.R. Locke, last name taken from John Locke. I am a nobody who dreamt about being a somebody but realized life is much fuller being a nobody. I have tried to do lots of things in life most have ended in abject failure.
When are you doing this?
When time allows.
What do you hope to accomplish?
I just want to have a fun journey because all the possible outcomes I would want I can’t control. It would be great if this trip becomes a positive thing and gets some response. I would hope no matter what these uncertain times bring throngs of Americans sign up to volunteer in their community. That however is up to you.
What can I do to help?
Well the best thing is to set me up with a good non-profit organization. The second best thing is let me know where the best basketball gym is in your city. The third best thing is invite me over for dinner and drinks and if you can stand me let me crash on your couch.
How do you afford to travel like this?
Well in reality I can’t. I just recently sold off most of my musical equipment to have enough money for the Northeast portion of my journey. But I have no home, so no rent (I do stay at my parents place for long stretches of time). I have no children I know of. I live rather thriftily. I quit smoking. My bills amount to $200 a month while my college loans are in deferment. This of course won’t last.
When I travel South and West I hope to raise some money – donate here -. I also have thought about playing solo shows for gas money but I am not too keen on playing music again. I would like to travel with some musicians or other vagabonds to cut costs though. I hate driving!
Do you work for an organization?
No. This is a solo act.
Are you a Christian?
I don’t think much about religion. Everything is. Nothing is. I like all kinds of people though; just don’t hold it against me.
